Eco-Tec to provide biogas purification technology for UK anaerobic digester. (17/01/2008)

Pickering, Ontario, Canada:  Eco-Tec announced today that it has recently won a contract for biogas purification at McCain Foods in the UK.  The biogas will be produced through an anaerobic digestion process to be used for waste foodstuff.

McCain Foods is implementing energy efficiency projects at its processing plants around the world as part of the overall drive to combat climate change.

One of McCain’s projects is in the UK where the company has introduced a treatment process for waste foods based on anaerobic digestion.  The process includes capture of biogas from the digester lagoons, which is purified before use to generate electricity.

The company commissioned Black & Veatch to assess available technology and manage integration of the chosen system into the proposed anaerobic process.

Carmine Fontana, Eco-Tec VP Business Development said:

"Eco-Tec has assisted industries with sustainable practices for over 37 years, and we are proud to be a part of McCain Foods' continued strategy for energy efficiency.”

Eco-Tec says that its patented biogas purification system, BgPur(TM), was designed to accommodate McCain's specific requirements regarding flow rate variations, changes in pressure, and the system's overall flexibility. With simple operation and low operating costs, Eco-Tec's biogas purification technology was selected by McCain.

Eco-Tec was recently awarded the Canadian Innovation Award for Environmental Technology, by the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters association, for this biogas purification technology.

In a further green project announced last year, McCain was to introduce three 80 metre high wind turbines at the largest chip production plant in the UK at Whittlesey, to power the plant using alternative energy.
