" Rapid change in the retail industry means that consistent and practical packaging design guidance is much needed"
James Northen, Head of Policy Initiatives, IGD
A new online guide to help the retail sector meet its packaging reduction commitments has been launched by WRAP. The launch took place at the Total Processing and Packaging Show, NEC, last week.
The Guide to Evolving Packaging Design has been developed in response to demands for packaging advice from throughout the retail supply chain. It has being launched at a time when retailers and brands are announcing the challenging reduction targets that their customers are asking for. The guide provides advice and support to respond to these challenges as well as generate ideas.
Welcoming the launch, IGD head of policy initiatives James Northen, said:
"It is vital that the industry has the clear and consistent guidance offered by the Guide to Evolving Packaging Design so that it can respond to these demands both quickly and effectively"
Helen Hughes, WRAP packaging design specialist
“Rapid change in the retail industry means that consistent and practical packaging design guidance is much needed. WRAP’s Guide to Evolving Packaging Design is a great new resource for all of those involved in designing and specifying packaging solutions.”
WRAP packaging design specialist, Helen Hughes, added:
“The retail packaging landscape is changing quickly. Consumers are demanding less packaging, the top 13 retailers have pledged to reduce packaging by signing up to the Courtauld Commitment and brands are also increasingly looking to get involved.
“It is vital that the industry has the clear and consistent guidance offered by the Guide to Evolving Packaging Design so that it can respond to these demands both quickly and effectively.”
The Guide to Evolving Packaging Design includes information on packaging design, consumer perceptions, material choice and recyclability as well as showing concept packs for a range of products, from fresh foods to household care products, and from ready meals to wine.
WRAP packaging experts were on hand at the Total Processing and Packaging to offer advice and information on improving packaging sustainability.
The WRAP Retail Innovation team engages constructively with the leading retailers, brand owners and their supply chain to identify collaborative projects whose primary aim is to reduce the amount of food and packaging waste that ends up in the household bin.
