Welsh Environment Minister, Carwyn Jones, has decided to visit the new landfill site at Hafod, Wrexham to see for himself. Since opening earlier this year (August) the operation of the site has been subjected to protests from campaigners.
The site is operated by Mersey Waste Holdings which is a Local Authority Arms Length company owned by the Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority (MWDA). There is also a degree of discontent relating to the 'import' of wastes from Merseyside.
Mr Jones is to decide shortly on whether he should overrule the planning consent issued for the site in 1995 and has received a 4000 signature petition in support of such a revocation.
