"The Intercontinental Recycling plant is one of, if not the, most technologically advanced in the UK, and we are delighted to have been able support such an exciting project"

Skelmersdale, Lancs., England: Intercontinental Recycling Limited (IRL) has opened a multi-million pound plastics recycling plant at its site in Skelmersdale.
The state-of-the-art facility will be able to convert an estimated 30,000 tonnes of post-consumer plastic bottles per annum into recycled PET flakes and HDPE pellets for premium markets.
Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank funded the plant, said to be the “UK’s largest”, to the tune of over £500,000 following introduction to the project by Manchester based, Equilibrium Finance Limited.
The plant offers much needed recycling capacity in the UK as domestic demand for high grade recycled polymer grows and local authorities continue to expand their collection of plastics through kerbside collection and recycling centres.
Cutting edge technology, which includes the latest infra-red sorting system, is key to the plant’s ability to treat mixed plastics through its sorting and separation systems and should help reduce exports of these materials.
