West Midlands severely under resourced in recycling infrastructure (31/01/2008)

"The West Midlands is severely under-resourced with large recycling facilities and it is important that there is major expenditure in recycling infrastructure"

London:  Veolia Environmental Services has received planning permission to build its sixth UK Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) at its existing Four Ashes site near Wolverhampton.

The facility will be constructed within an existing industrial unit which is located in an already licensed area for waste management.

However the company considers that major investment is needed in the area to develop adequate recycling infrastructure.

The site will result in the creation of 25 - 30 jobs when fully operational.  It is expected that the facility will become operational this year.

The plant will process 40,000 tonnes per annum of plastic bottles, cans and glass – from local kerbside collection schemes.

The latest technology will be used to sort and separate the items into segregated material for reprocessing.

Some commercial wastes will also be accepted as the MRF will be capable of accepting and baling cardboard and paper from commercial sources.
