"Sir Ken Collins has served us well over the past eight years and I look forward to working alongside both him and David Sigsworth over the next few months, as the baton is passed from one Chairman to another"
Dr Campbell Gemmell, SEPA Chief Executive
The Scottish Government has announced the new SEPA Chairman to succeed current Chairman Sir Ken Collins who retires at the end of December.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has welcomed the appointment of David Sigsworth, a Chartered Electrical Engineer and a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts.
Mr Sigsworth has worked for over 40 years in the energy sector, latterly on the board of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE). Since he retired in 2005 he has been active in promoting high technology start-up companies and involved in renewable and sustainable energy markets.
He is Chairman of the Dundee Science Centre, Vice President of the Combined Heat and Power Association, a board member of Energy Action Scotland and a trustee of the think tank Sustainability First.
Welcoming the appointment, SEPA Chief Executive Dr Campbell Gemmell said:
"Scotland’s prosperity, public health and the quality of all of our lives depend on having a high quality environment. As Scotland’s environmental regulator, SEPA has a key role in protecting and improving the environment, understanding environmental trends, publishing information and delivering key public services. Our work ranges from preventing and responding to pollution, to warning the public about flooding and contributing effectively overall to the economic success and general wellbeing of Scotland.
“Our Chairman plays a pivotal role in leading the Board and setting our strategic direction. Sir Ken Collins has served us well over the past eight years and I look forward to working alongside both him and David Sigsworth over the next few months, as the baton is passed from one Chairman to another.”
