Cory Environmental gets Green500 Gold Award (12/06/2009)

London:  Cory Environmental has received the prestigious Green500 Gold Award for its Charlton Bargeworks site and a Silver Award for its Smugglers Way Transfer Station in Wandsworth.  The awards made in recognition of the company’s dedication in managing and reducing carbon emissions, were received in a ceremony hosted by London's Mayor, Boris Johnson.

Cory says it was one of the first of London’s top 500 businesses to sign up to the Green500 initiative, which was set up by the London Development Agency (LDA) last year.   Green500 encourages the biggest businesses in the capital to collectively reduce their carbon emissions by 1.5 million tonnes over the next two and a half years.

The company has assessed levels of carbon emissions from both sites over the past year, and used the data to develop action plans to manage and reduce emissions.  Seven action plans for each site have been developed covering the period to 2010, which are subject to independent verification by the National Energy Foundation.

Nicola Topliss, Environmental Risk Manager for Cory Environmental, said:
“These awards are evidence that our implementation of carbon management strategies has been successful and we are delighted to receive such recognition for our efforts.

“The two strategies we implemented at Charlton Bargeworks and Smugglers Way will form part of our corporate policy on carbon emissions. This month we will be rolling out a company-wide carbon policy known as the Carbon Management Commitment and we hope to see similar success across the whole business over the next 12 months.”
