The statement was in response to a question from David Drew, Labour/Co-op MP for Stroud, who asked whether the Secretary of State for the Environment expected his Department to meet the Sustainable Operations on the Government Estate 2010 recycling target.

In addition Mr Drew asked if Defra would also meet the target to source 10% of its electricity from renewables by 31 March 2008.

In response Ms Ruddock said that the Department was currently sourcing 63% of its electricity from renewable resources.  This considerably exceeds the 2008 target.
