Northampton, England: The assets and business of CAW Limited, from Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, were acquired last week by Waste Recycling Group (WRG). The business has an annual turnover in the region of £5 million.
WRG says that the acquisition will build on the significant presence that it already has in Cumbria which includes collection, recycling, clinical and liquid waste disposal and landfill.
Through the acquisition WRG continues to invest in developing waste and resource management and recycling operations in Cumbria and the South Lakes, according to the company.
CAW Limited was founded by Dave Armer in 1992 and operates a fleet of collection vehicles from its Walney Road transfer station. Thirty people are employed by the company and the take-over by WRG should secure their positions as well as offering the potential for more jobs as WRG expands its services.
CAW entered a difficult period in January 2007, when Cumbria County Council announced the temporary closure of seven household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) in the south and east of the county, due to the Council's decision to terminate CAW's contract for their operation.
