Renewable sources could provide 50% of energy needs
A report by the German Aerospace Centre has suggested that around 50% of world energy needs could be met by renewables (including energy efficiencies) by 2050. It also details how to halve global CO2 emissions by 2050, using existing technology and still providing affordable energy and economic growth.
The report also estimates that renewable energy production, e.g. generation through wind and solar power is capable of meeting 70% of the world's electricity and 60% of heating requirements.
The report Energy Revolution, was commissioned by Greenpeace and Europe's Renewable Energy Council.
